Who?
Ministry of Social Affairs in Lebanon
Who are we? This website was produced by a project in the
Ministry of Social Affairs together with the United Nations
Population Fund. The project is called “Information,
Education and Communication in Support of Reproductive Health
at the Community Level.”
What?
What do we do? The aim of the project is to create awareness
on reproductive and sexual health, especially for young
people.
When?
The project was created in 1999 and since then has regularly
carried out many awareness activities that you can read
about below.
Where?
We are located in Hadath in a center called the “Social
Development Training Center.” You can contact us by
email at po1@cyberia.net.lb or if you do not have email
you can contact us by telephone at 05-467-920 during our
working hours (8 am – 3 pm).
Why?
Reproductive and sexual health concerns everyone, and it
includes many topics that you can read about in this website.
It is important for young people to learn about and understand
these topics so that they can have healthy bodies and minds
and also so that they can have healthy relationships with
other people.
How?
We carry out many activities including:
1-
Production of information, education and communication material
- Reference books containing information that help other
people like us who work to improve reproductive health awareness
in Lebanon
- Training kits with manuals, videos, a caricature book,
and a music cassette that can be used in awareness activities
with young people
- A play called “Hiwar” that uses mimes and
puppets to illustrate the reproductive and sexual health
topics that concern young people
- Television spots and posters that are related to this
website
2- Awareness
Activities
- Awareness sessions with small groups of adolescents using
the material described above
- Awareness Campaigns in different regions of Lebanon including
Bizbina (Akkar), Bint Jbeil, Hasbaya, Baalback, and different
areas in Beirut
- Informative stands in health fairs, public exhibitions,
and university exhibitions
- Lectures in universities
3- Training
Activities and Workshops
- Training workshops for social healthcare workers on how
to use the material described above to conduct awareness
sessions with young people
- Training workshops for young people on how to carry out
awareness campaigns in their region
- Media workshop to help people that work in television
stations, radio stations, magazines, and newspapers, to
properly cover topics related to reproductive and sexual
health
4- Research
Activities
- Focus group discussions with young people in which they
tell us about their knowledge, values, and behaviors related
to reproductive and sexual health
- Research on violence that is based on gender
- Development of a national strategy to promote awareness
among youth in Lebanon on reproductive and sexual health
5- Advocacy
- Consultation workshop on a national strategy for information,
education, and communication.
- Distribution of calendars containing reproductive and
sexual health messages to groups of people working in media,
health, and education.
- Appearances on television discussion shows
- Participation in national and regional conferences held
by other ministries, universities, and organizations.
